Saudi authorities should immediately reveal the legal and evidentiary basis for each person's detention and ensure that each can exercise due process rights, it said.

The crown prince is moving just as aggressively with a foreign policy that's confronting arch-rival Iran on multiple fronts and raising tensions across the region.

Following the attack, the Saudis accused Iran of "direct military aggression" by supplying missiles to Houthi rebels in Yemen. Hezbollah has members in the Lebanese unity government that Hariri formed last year.

Rouhani added that the Saudis had made a strategic mistake considering the US and Israel's "Zionist regime" as friends, and Iran as enemy. The campaign has ensnared more than 1.5 million "tigers and flies", including the country's retired top general, former security chief and one-time presidential contender.

Col. Aziz Rashed, an army spokesman with a unit allied with the Houthis, warned travelers to stay away from Saudi and Emirati airports as they are considered "legitimate targets".

Hundreds of cars lined the main roads of Yemen's capital after the rebels who control the city ordered fuel stations to close on Wednesday, accusing merchants of taking advantage of a Saudi blockade to hike prices. The Saudis and the UAE are the main pillars of the coalition.

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley accused Iran of supplying a missile to Huthi rebels that was fired into Saudi Arabia in July. "There are no other paths forward than friendship, brotherhood and mutual assistance", he said.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric called on the coalition and the rebels to allow aid in, warning that "any further shocks to imports of food and fuel may reverse recent success in mitigating the threat of famine". "The Saudi-led coalition is saying, 'get them out, '" he said.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's remarks were carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

However, a Yemeni security official said none of the letters had been answered.

Others under scrutiny were being phoned by investigators about their finances but appeared to remain at liberty, one of the sources said.

In reaction to the missile, the Saudi-led coalition closed all air, land and sea ports to the impoverished country.
