Anyway, despite a supposed video game movie curse making sure that almost every film released as an adaptation has sucked badly (and even the better ones are only better because they suck less), Nintendo and Illumination (best known for making the word "banana" a whole joke in the Despicable Me franchise) are teaming up to bring Mario to the big screen.

Super Mario Bros movie will be co-financed by Universal Pictures, Nintendo and shall be distributed in theaters worldwide by Universal Pictures. Nintendo will partner with Illumination Entertainment for the film, which will be produced by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri. Illumination has the prowess to make a great CGI family-friendly flick, and having Miyamoto on board is a major plus to ensure everyone involved gets the heart of the character right.

There were rumors of the deal back in November until Nintendo confirmed the rumors late Wednesday night. The movie bombed in the box office, losing nearly $27 million and being critically panned.
